We're in Jeremiah chapter 35 tonight, and Rob's gonna lead us in worship, and we wanna pray for Sally. Everybody out there, keep praying for our dear Sally. Her lungs are filling up with fluid again, and so we wanna make sure that the doctors, everybody figure that out. Presently, it's she has cancer, but, she can't go home until they figure out why the lungs continue to, fill up. So, father, we come before you. And, we lift up our dear, sister Sally. And, lord, you've you've healed so many people, but presently, they just don't quite know what's going on. So we pray that you help them to figure it out. We pray that she'd get the right treatments and meds and such and diuretics, whatever needed. And Lord, that James and Sally could go home and they could have outpatient care, that you would, that you would even intervene, Lord, miraculously, that you would heal her and, help them to get a good night's sleep and restful and just just heal heal them, Lord. And we lift up this bible study tonight and thank you. Thank you, Lord, for, just another opportunity to study your word and to worship you and, to fellowship and have a meal together. And, Lord, we just love you. We praise your holy name. We pray this 2024 would be a a barn burner, lord. We pray that you come for your bride, the church, lord, that you come for us soon, lord. We're watching. We're looking up. We don't know what's gonna happen, but we know you're sovereign. You're on the throne. You're in control. We're trusting in you, Lord. In Jesus' name, amen. Amen. Alright. Jeremiah 35. Okay. Father, thank you for the sweet time that we could worship you. Thank you for the joy of the Lord that's our strength. And, Lord, we're just so blessed to be able to serve you and to be living in these last days and be pointing people to you. Thank you, Lord, that we're not walking in darkness. Thank you that we have a future and a hope. And as we set aside this time to study your word, Lord, we ask that you'd speak to us and be our teacher and comfort our hearts and help us, Lord, to let go of this world more and more and to embrace your coming kingdom, Lord. And as as we keep looking up, looking for that blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and savior, Lord, even so, come quickly, Lord Jesus. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Alright. Chapter 35. What's gonna happen here is the Lord's gonna use an illustration of the Recabites. The Recabites are a group of Bedouins or nomadic tribe people that we see them first of all, the place that we see them is the the Kenites. When Moses fled from Egypt and he came to the house of Jethro or his name's also Hobab, this this is the Rehobites. These are the people, the Kenites of the Rehobites. And so later on after after Jethro, there's a guy named Jonadab, the son of Rehob, and so they're known as the Rehobites. And he told his sons to never drink wine, told them to live in tents, don't ever own a home. And the third one what was the third one? Do you remember the third one? It's the third one. So it's the wine, be nomadic oh, be nomadic, and no houses. So in this case, they're gonna come into the city of Jerusalem because the Chaldeans and the Assyrians had been out in the in the nomadic area, and so they felt unsafe, so they came into the area of Jerusalem. The Lord is instructing Jeremiah to go to these sons of the Recobites, the Recobites, and to test them. So they're going to bring them into the temple area, going to give them big vats of wine, tons of wine, big kegger, Calvary kegger, and just bring your mug, you know, and see if they can get them to get them to drink, you know. And what's interesting is the Lord's using this illustration of their obedience to their father, which was three hundred years prior. So for three hundred years, all the offspring is obeying and live this nomadic lifestyle. They're they're shepherds, so they have no vineyards to grow any crops or foods or things like that. And they're not living in stationary in one single place and a home and the whole thing. And so there are today, you would call them Bedouin tribes, or if you're in Philadelphia, somewhere back east, you might call them Amish. They might be the Amish. I don't know. Although the Amish build homes. Right? So a little different, a little different bent. And but the Lord's going to use this illustration to say to the children of Israel there in Judah, look at these guys, they obey their father. They're they're they've been obeying their father ever since he gave that, you know, that edict. And but you guys are always disobeying me. You never obey me. Why won't you obey me? So how important is obedience in the life of the Christian? Sacrifice. Yeah. They're the sacrifice. Right? We're gonna go there. In first Samuel 15, we're gonna go there. But how important is obedience? I mean, can we can we pull out the grace card and just live any way we wanna live and nobody can judge our behavior because then the next verse they use is judge not unless you be judged. They all know that verse. They all know wives submit to your husbands. Right? And so how do you how do you confront somebody that's living in sin? Definitely in disobedience to God. So work, you're there at work and you know that they're going out clubbing or whatever it is people do, and you're trying to be a witness at work. And they're like, you know, anything goes. Like in Judah, it says they take the grace of God and turn it into lasciviousness. And so we would say a very liberal church, very liberal Christianity. Maybe they got women pastors now. Maybe they got homosexuals. Maybe they got worship leaders wearing dresses, you know, fairy, what are those things, fairy godmothers and all that. So, basically, bringing the world into the church, kind of an atmosphere of anything goes, and we look at the word of God and directly outside the will of the Lord, what he's revealed as his will. Adulters and fornicators will not inherit the kingdom of God. Covetous, a whole list in first Corinthians six, you know. And so we're we're there trying to let people understand that, no, if you if you love the Lord, then you're gonna keep his commandments. If you love Jesus, you're gonna love one another. And living a life of disobedience is an indicator there's no repentance. What's it mean to repent? Why would you need repentance if anything goes? One of the things that astonishes me about this this thing here is you're raising kids, and you're told in Ephesians six, you know, Exodus 20 verse 12 and Colossians three, that children, obey your parents. So it'll go better with you. You know? Life will be better for you if you obey your parents, honor your father and mother. You know? And you as long as you've got the ability, you can kinda force your kids to obey you. Right? But then as they get a little bit older or you got a little bit older, there a day comes where you tell your parents, I don't have to listen to you anymore. I'm 18 now. I make my own decisions. You know? And, well, as long as you live under this roof, you're gonna follow the rules of this household. Right? And so everybody tries that with their kids. And then the kids test their boundaries or whatever and leave home and go out there and the whole thing. And so did you, as a parent, did you lose your authority in the life of that child? Are they correct in saying you have no authority over my life anymore? Can you ever speak into their life again? When they get married, when they get married and they use Genesis and they say, hey, father, husband and wife, man and woman shall come together, two shall become one, and and they'll, you know, not be what's to say? They're not gonna be under the leave your leave and cleave. Leave your father, mother, and cleave and become one flesh. You know? So that leaving and cleaving, the cleaving is you're glued together, you become one. And I've heard a lot of kids that get into that situation saying, no. We're to leave and cleave. You as parents, grandparents have no say so in anything we do. Is that true? It shouldn't be. True that. Yep. Is it true? It's not true. Leave and cleave? Any any of guys heard that from your kids nowadays? Leave and cleave means they don't have to listen to anybody? Yep. Wait a minute. We raised these kids. So a husband comes along, got the wife, and all of a sudden you have no input into her into your daughter's life? You can't say anything? Or you're meddling. You know? So Don't the Jewish inheritance you know, you give a double portion to your oldest. I can't imagine that's has any validity with a rebellious child that doesn't want anything to do with you, but you still have to give them that? It seems like it requires that even through the inheritance. Well, when it comes to money, they will do what you want. Mhmm. Exactly. Uh-huh. Yeah. Unfortunately. When you're Unfortunately. But Yeah. During the Unfortunately. But as soon as as soon as you give them power of attorney and and, you know, the will, it's amazing how quickly they you know, how how it's over. You know, it's over. So, anyway, I'm not painting a bad picture, but this this whole idea today is in the Christian community, these young couples, oh, no. We're you guys are meddling. We're gonna leave and cleave, and that means you have no say so in our life anymore. Well, honey, I'm concerned about you guys and what you're doing now. We didn't raise you this way, and we'd like to speak into your life because we're very concerned about your gambling habit, or we're very concerned about whatever. And they act like, hey. Wait a minute. So I I would like to point them around me to the Lord. Well, at least be obedient to him. You know? Let's get the word of God here so that you you follow your heavenly father. You know? So it just doesn't seem like we have any parental family kind of authority anymore. Everyone's doing that, which is the right right in their own eyes. And even for me as a pastor, people that we run into, if somebody sins the idea of confronting, you go alone, you confront Matthew 18, and they still don't listen. You know, you take a a witness with you and then you come before the, you know, the church. So as we're going through first Corinthians, Paul's gonna say, he that that young buck that's living with his father's wife, his stepmom, that's sleeping with her, you guys haven't confronted him. You haven't confronted this couple. You guys act like it's loving to allow to be intolerant to be tolerant of evil. And you see yourself as hip and cool and, you know, all that. We see that today. And Paul says, no. You need to you need to deal with this. A little leaven leavens the whole lump. You know? And so they had to excommunicate them. And then later in second second Corinthians, it looks like they were restored. But there had to be a little pressure, little education, little discomfort giving them over to Satan, and it was more comfortable to be within the church and all of the support, you know, that they were receiving, the love and and care and all. And so so I'm just concerned in the idea. Now the other side of this is so a sloppy agape or a too much or a misunderstanding of grace, which is God's unmerited favor, comes to a place of what's called antianomianism. So it means no law. You're not under the law. So you hear people say, well, I'm saved now. I'm under grace. I'm not under law. And so the other side of that extreme would be legalism. We're in the church, and we're in such a tight group that the law's pulled out, and everybody's got a strict standard that they got to live by, and everybody's judging each other and all that. And so we we definitely don't want that. Right? If we hold to the letter of law, it kills. So we we want the grace to be there. They are married to favor and the love, but love confronts. Faith, love, the wounds of a friend. Gifts of an enemy are deceitful. If I truly love my kids, I'm going to confront them, and I'm gonna say, hey. I'm very concerned about whatever. And I don't I don't wanna say anything, but whatever it is. So like with Jessica, let's say, I'm very concerned about your drinking, honey. I'm very concerned about, you know, you and Germ. I I wanna see you. You know? And they say, yeah. Yeah. We know. We know. And so they know they're doing wrong. And but, you know, sometimes if you speak into the life, they won't talk to you for a couple years. So you you like, afraid to say anything. You know? And but right as they come out of the gate at eighteen, nineteen, twenty, or get married early, you know, I don't want that husband thinking I can't speak into the lives of my daughters anymore. I don't want him thinking that leave and cleave means I've got to keep my mouth shut. You know? I have a certain authority in that home, in that family to make sure that my Christian daughters have actually married a Christian man and that he's going to do what he promised to do. You know? And but I I see in a lot of ways, you know, the kids will say, oh, no. No. Leave and cleave, man. Leave and cleave, where, you know, you you can't say anything anymore. You can't speak anything anymore. And I think they've got the whole leave and cleave thing messed up because, yeah, we want the two of you to become one, but it doesn't mean you're not a part of a family. You're not a part of a church family. It doesn't mean you're unaccountable to people that love you and the people that are in, you know, in their lives. Obviously, decisions are their decisions of whether they wanna get jabbed or move somewhere, get away, you know, all those things. We have no no you know, there's nothing we can do to try and meddle or interfere with any of that. But but if there's outright sin in their life, if your daughter's got bruises, if she's being mistreated, whatever, You know, that's a legal issue. There's a whole lot of other issues. And and so in the church, the same thing. People need to be obedient. Do they need to obey God's word? Do they need to obey God's revealed will in his word? At what point do we confront? At what point do we bring it to the surface? And so God's frustrated. If you can use that word frustrated with God, kind of use it loosely. Right? Can God be frustrated? The Lord would be grieved, you know, with the Lord Jesus. You know, I can't get your guys' attention. You know? I've I've come with funeral music and you won't respond. I've come with, like, marriage music, you won't respond. There's just no response. Your hearts are you do worship me with your lips, but your hearts are far from me. And so he'd upbraid Chorazin and Bethsaida in these cities where great miracles took place in them. And he said that, you know, if the same kind of works were done in in Sodom and Gomorrah, they would have remained at Tyre and Sidon, they'd have remained to this day. So, anyway, an illustration here, a contrast. So the word which came unto Jeremiah from the Lord in the days of Jehoiakim, the son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying so this is around 06/2009 to May, about eleven years before chapter 39 where where we see in May that Nebuchadnezzar's gonna destroy Jerusalem. So go on to the house of the Recobites. So the Recobites are there in town because, again, they feared the Chaldeans. The Babylonians are putting a siege upon the city, and it was unsafe to be nomadic. It was unsafe to be Bedouins out in the field tending sheep and all that. So one of the things that took place when Joshua and Caleb and the guys and Moses came into the land is that Jethro, Hobab, the priest of Midian, came with them. And so they're they became kind of a part of the nation even though they aren't Jewish, but Moses married the daughter, one of the daughters of Jethro. And when she was going out, and I remember this in the movie 10 Commandments, when she was going out to didn't have sons, but seven daughters, going out to water the sheep, the shepherds there, the male shepherd guys pushed the women away. And remember Moses came in there, Charlton Heston, and we got them all and let let her water her sheep first, you know? And and so then he had a couple kids with her, didn't circumcise them, then did circumcise them, and and going on into let my people go and got the blessing of Jethro to go do this. And then later, when it came time with the exodus, Jethro and his family went with Moses, Joshua, Caleb, the guys. And so this was Moses' father-in-law, dates back to him. And speak unto them and bring them into the house of the Lord, into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink. So here's the test. Alright? They've come into the city. Now let's see if they're gonna hold to this promise that they gave, you know, under their father three hundred years prior. Now this is not a binding promise. God's not asking them to do this. God's not asking them, don't you guys be the guys that don't drink anything from the vine. You guys be the guys that don't have a home. You guys be the guys that, you know, wander around as pilgrims and sojourners, you know, looking for a city whose builder maker is god as Abraham and Sarah did. You know? And that's how Abraham and Sarah lived, that's how Abraham, Isaac, Jacob lived. The only piece of real estate that Abraham bought was the cave at McPhilah for to bury Sarah. And so but he was looking for a city whose builder and maker is God. So test them. What's it like when you're when somebody sets you up to be tested? What's it like when the Lord sets you up to be tested? You know? You'll find that if you pass the test, you don't have to retake the test. You'll also find if you pass the test, there's usually a reward. The Lord's the Lord knows what you're gonna do and not gonna do, but others watching you, people around you, may come to know that, hey. They were tested in this way, and, they came through the test. They came through the fire. And but they went through an awful lot before that in preparation to get ready for where the Lord wanted to bring them. And so then I took Jazaniah, the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habazaniah, and his brethren and his sons and the whole house of the Rehobites. So these are the sons of Jonadab earlier. And one of the other interesting things about this is that in second Kings ten fifteen through 27, this Jonadab guy was kind of a captain, and Jehu was taken over and wiping out Jezebel and Ahab, their whole royal seed. And Jehu pulls up to him in the chariot and says, hey. Are you are we like minded? Yeah. We're like minded. And get up here with me. And then he went with him, to go destroy all those who were worshiping Baal. And, they slaughtered and they killed all the false prophets who were worshiping Baal as Jehu was taken over the kingdom from Ahab and Jezebel. And I brought them into the house of the Lord, into the chamber of the sons of Hanan, the son of Agadelai, a man of God. Paul calls Timothy a man of God. What a great what a great moniker. What a great title. Well, how would you describe that guy? How would you describe describe that that woman, that family, that marriage? How would you describe him or her? A man, a woman of God, devout Christians. What do you mean? Religious? No. They're in love with Jesus. They're in love with God. And they walk in obedience unto the Lord. People know if we're obedient or if we're not. When we're compromising, when we're trying to gain relevance to be relevant with everybody so they like us, when we compromise, we become irrelevant. Irrelevant in the eyes of God. You have no power when you compromise. Now, you might get a larger following of people, but it's just a following of very powerless, shallow, carnal, fleshly people who are not turning the world upside down. And so what we wanna do is we wanna walk in obedience under the Lord regardless of what the culture, the pressure. Imagine the pressure upon these guys when they come there. The pressure. I mean, this is the temple. These are heavy duty people. This is this guy's a man of God. You know? And and Jeremiah is setting the stage, and he hasn't told them, hey, what this is all about. Who was by the chamber of the princess, which was above the chamber of messiah, the son of Shalom, the keeper of the door. And so these are some heavy people. These are real people. I mean, I would I would, if I had people in my life like this, I was called to a meeting and some people that I respected were there and they said, Hey, we're gonna have a kegger. We're gonna have a party here. And I'd be like, Well, I don't drink. I abstain from drinking. It's been a long time. Kathy, do you want to drink? Do you want to, you know, do you want to do that? Is it okay? Is it a sin? What do we think about it? Will we run that through our head? Well, let's try the herb too. Let's go back to the herb. You know? Where where are you gonna draw the line? How far are you gonna go? And how much are you gonna drink? What kind of stuff? Is it strong drink? Is it is it grape juice? You know, what is it? And so my conscience would be violated. Right? And but it might be the ticket to prosperity. It might be I can close this business deal if I'll just go have drinks with these guys. If I tell them I don't drink, they might be uncomfortable being around me. Everything gets all stiff and unsettling. So what kind of business do I want to have if I have to if I'm a salesman, do I want to go to those sales meetings? Do I want to go on those junkets at hotels and everybody drinking and partying and all that? Will it impede my career? Will it help my career? What am I gonna do in regard to alcohol as a Christian? How how, you know, how how much pressure is upon me to conform in order to get the sale and to climb the ladder and make people feel good around me that that basically don't abstain from anything. Right? And so once you go down that slippery slope, though, where are you going to draw the line? Once you compromise, you know, what are your principles? What are the things that are nonnegotiable in your life regardless of of what people think? And so as for me and my house, we're gonna serve the Lord. And a life of compromise to me is a is a wasted life because I certainly want to one day hear the Lord say, well done, thou good and faithful servant. I don't wanna hear the Lord say, Rick, why did you compromise with so many people? And so we're gonna read about King Saul and see why I don't wanna be like King Saul in a few minutes here. So the princess which was above the shalom, the keeper of the door, it says in Psalm 8four 10, for a day in your court is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. Right? And so it's okay to be a doorkeeper in the house of the Lord. That's a good job. That's a good place to be a man of God, to serve the Lord. You know, Job, my servant Job, my servant Moses, great to be a servant of the Lord. And better to be poor and maintain your integrity than to give up your integrity and be with the wicked. And so and I set before the sons of the house of the Rehobites pots full of wine and cups. And I said unto them, drink wine. It's a kegger. Calvary kegger, baby. Here we go. You got your K wave mug? And just come on in. Bring your own beer. No. You don't have to bring your own beer. We've got a big kegger here. And so that's gonna be that's gonna be a big test here for these guys. Three hundred years earlier, Jonadab told his sons, his daughters, you guys are gonna be different. You guys are you guys are gonna be the ones that don't drink. You're gonna be the ones that don't have a house. You're gonna be the ones that live in a tent with sheep, and we're gonna be keep moving. We're gonna move about. We're gonna live outside the cities. And the sad thing concerning Lot is he pitched his tent toward Sodom. Right? Had he continued to be like Abraham and Sarah, nomadic with their sheep. They were doing very well. First, he pitched his tent towards Sodom. Abraham gave him first choice of which direction he would go, and he chose the best for himself. Right? And tragically, he wound up in Sodom and Gomorrah, not only in Sodom and Gomorrah among among and Peter tells us his soul was vexed day by day, vexing how it's how it's affecting his wife, how it's affecting, you know, his children, his family and all. And he knew that that they were being defiled, being made filthy. And so how much better it would have been to be nomadic and stay away from these cities that had such incredible accumulation of people that are sitting like crazy and how you you and I, there's certain cities and certain places we don't want to live because we want to keep our family safe. You know? And we might move out in the suburbs or move to a place where, you know, there aren't so many carjackings and things like that. So a lot of good things can take place. Living a little bit outside the cities, you know, being nomadic, these Bedouins. Nowadays, these Bedouins who still are Bedouins and live in this way, now they have satellite dishes on their tents. They got oriental rugs they roll inside of it. You know? They they they probably have Toyota Land Cruisers, you know, whatever to move about, but they still live outside the city with that sort of a of a lifestyle. I read where, the Israeli government tried to build them houses and did build them houses, many of these folk today, and they won't live in the houses. They continue to live the life of of Bedouins. So the test is here. The kegger's there. You and I are gonna be tested. We're gonna be tested in that. There's gonna be certain people that say, hey. Why don't you why don't you go to Vegas with us? We're going to Vegas for a few days. You guys wanna go to Vegas with us? And you're like, well, there's gonna be temptation there. There'll be a lot of things going on. I would look at it from the standpoint, be not unequally yoked together with unbelievers as the manner some is. I'm not gonna be able to go to Vegas and feel safe. The times I've gone to Vegas, it's because of my mom lived near there, it was cheaper to fly in there and rent a car and then go my mom, who was you know, who had a brain tumor, lung cancer. But Kathy and I felt very, very out of place and so much so that it was written all over our face because some of the guys there, when we're getting directions about stuff, the guy says, you don't gamble, do you? And, like, no. We we don't. And I I think I asked him a question like, hey. There was somebody oh, Don Rickles. I said, hey. Does Don Rickles do shows here? You know? Because I think Don Rickles is pretty funny. Oh, no. He's he left Vegas years ago. And then when we went back to Kingman, Laughlin area where my mom lived, she lived for gambling. And immediately, we went to her house, and her husband got a 12 pack, and he was going through withdrawals. It was so sad to watch him. And and the girls got their little cooler ready and all that. Immediately, we took took them over to Laughlin, their bullhead city. They went into the casinos there and they had comp rooms and they had a room for us, but we felt so uncomfortable. We we didn't wanna stay. But while we're there for a few seconds, It was just so incredibly strange, you know, to to fish out of water. So I'm glad I'm glad that it still feels that way. If I could be comfortable in that environment, I'd have to wonder what's going on in my heart and my life. And sometimes people have invited me over here to the local casino to go to the buffet, and the guy was a Muslim, so Kathy and I went with him and with the objective of trying to, you know, win him to Christ. And what was funny is when I'm in town around here, I don't necessarily know very many people, but it's kind of weird. They know who I am, and you can see them looking at you. And they're like, why are you here? You know? And I'm like, because they got a big buffet, man. I like to eat. You know? And and so so I felt I I believe these guys felt out of place. I believe they were nervous. They were they felt the pressure. They wanted obviously to please the people they were with because they're godly people, and they're probably a little confused. Like, why do you want me to do this? Is this how you guys really live? Is this what you do? And that's another aspect of being in the church. When you're in the pews, you have an idea in your mind of how the pastors and leadership live. And a lot of them, you know, will say things from the pulpit that's right, it's biblical, and all that. But then we can reach a place where if we get behind the curtain, behind the scenes, get to know some of these guys, get to know some of the stuff that goes on, then you use the word stumble. You can be stumbled. It can really, really affect you when you hear that this pastor drinks and that he's got a drinking problem and that and that they they do all sorts of things. The joke, guess, in Orange County is in order to be a a Calvary pastor down there, you have to be divorced several times and remarried. You know? So and people laugh about that. Somebody recently told me that joke, and and it's very, very sad. It's really, really sad. And by the grace of God, you know, there go we. So we wanna be faithful. We wanna obey the Lord. We don't wanna compromise. We don't wanna give in to the temptation to live like the world. When the emergent church thing swept through, and there's many people still in the Calvary Chapels following this emergent church stuff, and it's it's heretical. And part of it's the contemplative prayer and the drinking of alcohol and the, you know, the all of it. And it had a devastating effect upon a lot of the pastors when they began to reopen that door to drinking alcohol, bringing cases of beer, you know, with them, other people visiting, and and who knows what else, you know, they're doing. But I had to stand against it in our community. The young people were getting sucked into it, and guys were thinking they were gonna go into the pubs around here and witness to people and win them to Christ. And and I just totally rebuked a couple of these young pastors when I saw them in a restaurant and knew what they were doing and just rebuked them right there because two of them used to attend our church and our youth group and all. And sadly, when they went down to Costa Mesa, there was a huge pressure upon the young people where Mark Driscoll and some of these Calvinist, hyper Calvinist dudes, were trying to reignite an era where Charles Spurgeon would smoke cigars and Joseph Parker would go to the theater. And so they were trying to envision that, hey, that's okay. I forget who the other guy was. Piper, John Piper. So a lot of them started started reincorporating drinking alcohol. When you go to churches around here, I was hearing reports where they would have wine coolers and a six pack, and that's how they'd start a night like tonight is you have a few alcoholic drinks. I heard that their college and career group were 20, the singles groups, would go over to vineyards nearby here and wine tasting. And guys reporting to me, telling me, and, you know, a lot of them were sleeping, men and women and, you know, unmarried people shacking up, sitting up, whatever, on these on these things, and nobody thinking anything of it. You know? Like, somehow that's acceptable. So I have to look at it, number one, in my life, if I compromise in those areas, am I allowing leaven into my marriage? Am I weakening my marriage? Am I weakening my family? Do I want to weaken my family, my resolve to follow the Lord? If I can handle it, that liberty, can my wife handle it? Can my kids handle it? At what point will it stumble them? Would it be wiser to abstain, wiser to not allow any of it into our life? Because all things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient, and I won't be brought under the power of any. So what's the profit? What's the profit and loss? What's the risk factor? What am I risking? And so for Kathy and I, it's always been holidays, family, whatever. No. We're not gonna that's not us. Not gonna be a part of it. So And they said, we will drink no wine. So that makes me think of Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego. Uh-huh. Right? It makes me think during COVID, we needed more people to say no. We needed more people to say, hell no. You know? We need more people to get angry and resist by simply not complying. And that's what we still need today. We need people to say no. I'm not eating bugs. No. I mean, I'm serious. No. If you don't say no to it, if if look at it. If people start buying it? So Disney lost in eighteen months a $195,000,000,000 because parents said no to the compromising videos and movies and things that they were producing with their homosexuality, their transgenderism. So I'm proud of these parents. I'm proud of them that they didn't want to expose their children, those sort of things. So you have to be able to say no. No is a good word. Mhmm. But they said we will drink no wine for Jonadab, So here's their authority. Not God said you couldn't drink it. Jesus turned the water to wine. Christians, there's nowhere where it forbids you to drink wine. The which is forbidden is getting drunk. So coming under the influence thereof, that's what's forbidden. And also what's forbidden is being a stumbling block to somebody else, that if you're drinking stumble somebody, then you need to refrain. For Jonadab, the son of Rehab, our father, commanded us saying, ye shall drink no wine. So this is three hundred years earlier, and God is taking note. Mhmm. God has been watching this and watching the obedience of these boys, these families. And they're saying, this is a shut door. What happens if you leave the door cracked? Yeah. What happens in areas of your life, you leave the door open? Like Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, it was a shut door. They didn't even need to think about it. Right. Right? They said, we're not even careful how we answer you, o king. When it comes to idolatry, when it comes to denying the lord and bow down and worshiping your image, it's an absolute n o. You know? Mhmm. And I just love the chutzpah. I love the way they they did it. And I love how Daniel, you know, he when they made a law, when the Persians made a law saying it was illegal to pray the way that he was praying, because they couldn't find anything that he was doing wrong, so they said, we gotta make a law that something that he's doing is wrong. So they so they made a law up that it was wrong to pray, to anybody except, you know, their their belief system. So he opens the windows up where he's at, and he faces Jerusalem, and he he prays three times a day. You know? So then they take and they get these the lions pit ready, got these lions down in there, gonna throw Daniel in the lion's den. And the king has no authority to stop it because the writing is this law system of laws, it's it's binding. And, so you know the story. The god shot the mouse of the lions. And, just like Haman, who tried to eradicate and destroy the Jews, He wound up hanging from his own gallows, and the people that conspired, it's conspiracy theory, against Daniel, they wound up being eaten by the lions. And so I'd rather die for Jesus than to bow the knee to pressure and to live another day, you know, live another day as a coward. I'd rather die right there. I'd rather be like Polycarp and say, 80 in six years, the Lord's been faithful to me. Do you think I'm gonna deny him now, you know, at this point? I've almost finished my race. You know? And the the the soldiers are like, please, I don't wanna hurt an old man. Just just say Caesar's Lord. Just just just say it. You know? Just pinch a little incense. You know? Just a little incense. You know? And, you know? But, it's a test, isn't it? We're constantly being tested. People are sizing us up all the time and testing us to see if they can get us to say an off color joke or laugh at their jokes or go have drinks with them or, like I said, go to Vegas, go to the casino, take vacations together, whatever it might be, or even make money. Do you wanna make money? You wanna make money? Yeah. I wanna make money. Well, this is how we do it. You know? So you're a young employee or business person, and there's a whole protocol of how they do things, and some of it might be you have to compromise. You know? You and once you compromise, you have to understand they videotaped you, and they've got you the rest of your life, the rest of your career. You're owned in many of these cases. So that's why we it's better to be poor, isn't it? It's better to be poor than to be a slave to the devil. Mhmm. Amen. But they said, we will drink no wine for Jonadab the son of Rehab our father commanded us saying, ye shall drink no wine neither ye nor your sons forever. Well, that's a long time. What if I've got a rebellious child? What if one of my kids are really rebellious? And they say, hey, dad. Good luck with that, buddy. And, you know, not only am I gonna drink, but I'm gonna go live in the city. I don't like living in a tent, and I don't like this lifestyle. You know, I need my I need a satellite so I can be a gamer. You know? I'm not on the Internet. How am I how can I hang out here? All my friends are on the Internet. You know? What do you mean? We're the only family around here that's not gonna watch television? How many of you parents took the television out of your home raise when you're raising your kids? I we there were periods of time where we didn't watch television, and then there were times where we reintroduced it. And we've always tried to monitor it really closely and make sure that if we're gonna allow that thing into this home and sometimes you have to go back to just videos, you know, DVDs of Little House on the Prairie or The Waltons or, you know VeggieTales. All these different things that you know that are saved. Because the programming today, it's so difficult to find programming that's suitable. Or when you go out to buy clothes for your children, your grandchildren, The clothes are like harlots now. Yep. You know, it's like they're not they're not you know, you got a little girl, a young girl, teenage girl, everything's revealing. Everything's showing everything. Or for the boys, you know, they want them to wear effeminate type clothing and all. So it so neither shall you build a house. So wait a minute. A house is my birthright. I've gotta have a house. And if you've moved around a lot, there's something inside of you that says, you know, we wanna we wanna nest. We wanna have a house. We wanna live in the neighborhood. We wanna be able to have play with our kids out in the street. Like, one of the things we did, we bought a house in California. We lived in a housing tract. That's the way I grew up. And you just had tons of friends out in the street, just tons of friends. So if you take and you homeschool and you move to a rural area, kids don't have any friends to play with. You know? And it's hard on them. So you gotta get them involved in homeschooling programs and sports and all of those sorts of things. And so you'll have everybody yelling at you when we homeschool Jessica and Brittany, seventy five years ago. People were people were like, you guys are crazy. You're just crazy. What about socialization? You're gonna ruin a you're gonna have socialization or have kids? And and so we didn't know any other families that were homeschooling at the time, and we went for it. And then we began to meet some other ones. And pastor Chuck's daughter, Jan, she had a homeschooling group, so we got a part of that. And and so you had your cume folders and had some accountability, and you had lots of times together with other groups, other people, and all regular all regular basis. So kids got plenty of socialization. One of my friends, Eric and Karen, came to visit us in our neighborhood, and they were trying to raise their good godly kids, at which they've succeeded in doing. They have great kids. But when they came to our neighborhood, one of the one of the neighborhood kids, the houses there, that we let our kids play with, introduced their kids to a new word. It's the first time they heard this word. And so then it comes back to the parents. Oh my god. They just heard kinda like Ralphie. Where'd you learn that? Where'd you get that word? You know? You know? And so that was like a big day. It's like, oh, but that's how you are as Christian parents. You're trying to keep them from any bad influences, you know, and as much as you can. And so and others, they'll put their kids in public school and say, you know what? It's the world. Our kids are missionaries, and we gotta train them to not live like that. And so you shall build a house nor sow seed nor plant a vineyard nor have any any, but all your days ye shall dwell in tents that you may have many days in the land were to be sojourners. So if we look at this and we say, alright, what's the norm? What's the exception? What's the what's the difference? Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are sojourners. Hebrews 11 says there are pilgrims and sojourners just passing through. And Abraham and Sarah, they were looking for a city whose builder and maker is God. So basically they were dissatisfied with this world. They were looking for something better. And as shepherds living off the land, they were able to move about and move their flocks. And, you know, they didn't have health insurance. They didn't have retirement. They didn't have a home. They didn't have a store real quick to go buy all the supplements and everything that we rely upon. When it rains. They got mud puddles and all of those sorts of things, the storms, the wind, the Scirocco winds, and all these different things they have to to live through. No doctors to come deliver the babies and mend a leg when it's broken or the cuts and tetanus shots and none of that kind of stuff. It's amazing how they got along, isn't it? I don't know how they made it. Do you? No vaccines either. No vaccines? How'd they live? How'd they live, yeah. And their food didn't need to go through any kind of FDA approval, and they didn't secretly eat bugs and worms and cricket flour and all their foods and stuff. They didn't have airplanes flying over poisoning them and mRNA vaccines proteins, and died suddenly, and cancers, and all this kind of stuff that we got to deal with. When they looked up at the sky, they learned the stars, they learned weather patterns, different things, and they learned language. They could communicate. They learned arithmetic, reading, writing, arithmetic, those kind of things. They were pastoral, nomadic and pastoral in their lifestyle, And Exodus two sixteen is when Moses met Jethro. Name is also Hobab in the Bible. And and so the obedience there, the obedience in Colossians three twenty, the obedience in Ephesians six two, children, obey your parents, Exodus 20 verse 12, you know, that'll go well with you, honor your father and mother. So I don't see any point where the Bible says once you get married, you don't have to honor your father and mother anymore. My mom, my dad, I You just know you're to honor the elders. That's how you're raised. You're to honor your elders. You're not to be all smart mouth and defiant and belittling and mistreat them. And probably one of the best things you can do, which Jessica and Brittany have done for Kathy and I, is just let us see you. You know? Let us be around you. We raised you. Why why would you isolate yourself and not wanna be around us anymore? You're you you would break our hearts. And then second tier would be to have grandkids, have some kids, you know, And, you know, love one another. Jesus in John 15 said, this is my commandment, that ye love one another. That's all we're asking. We're asking the family be strong in love. And and we're asking that the family would, you know, obey Jesus. That's all we ask of our kids. That's all we ask of our wives. That's all a woman should be asking of her husband, that her husband lives to obey Jesus. If her husband's living to obey Jesus, she's got nothing to worry about. If her husband's living in such way he doesn't obey Jesus, then she obeys Jesus. She doesn't need to obey a husband that's disobedient to Jesus. Do you know that? If your husband's disobedient to Jesus, you don't obey him. He has no say so till he repents. Girls need to understand that. You you can't have a husband that says you will submit and he's not in submission to Jesus. And so both of us, husband and wife, children, we point each other to Jesus. He's the head of the home. And and he's very gracious. He's very kind. He's very loving. And that's the kind of leadership that we're to emulate. And and so fathers, provoke not your children to wrath. You can be too heavy handed. Mhmm. You can be too legalistic, have too many laws, and be too rigid and frustrate your kids trying to form them into your image. Take knowledge of your wife, husbands, Peter says. And and when you really got it down and you're doing really well, there'll come a day where she calls you lord. I mean, I'm still waiting. I just I just I don't have it yet as Sarah did. So I've been waiting a long time. But wouldn't that sound so weird? I mean, that was how they spoke to each other, but that'd be so strange, wouldn't it? And so I I I just keep seeing second Peter two sixteen just and Balaam and Balaam had a donkey, that dumbass. You know, I just keep I just keep I keep seeing that. So thus have we obeyed the voice of Jonadab, the son of Rehob, our father, in all that he has charged us to drink no wine all our days. We are wives, our sons, and our daughters. So lives of abstinence. There are those who are called to lives of abstinence sexually. The life of being a eunuch, the life of abstaining from marriage, being single. Some are gifted in that way, Paul says. Some are made eunuchs by other men, and some choose that lifestyle. But you've got to have the gift. If you're a priest in the Catholic church and you don't have the gift of abstaining, then you are setting yourself up for a lot of trouble with the skeletons of little babies all over the grounds with the nuns and all. It's asking too much of people to abstain from marriage if if they don't have the gift. And so it's maybe they have this appearance of being more holy because they can abstain. But if God hasn't wired you that way, then you're just going against the grain. We're gonna see that as we study through first Corinthians chapter seven, Paul will address that. And so alcohol, I like going to Ephesians five eighteen, be not drunk with wine wherein is excess, but be being filled with the Holy Spirit. So as I'm looking at that, I'm saying, well, you know, when I drink and I come under the influence thereof, I'm giving control. I'm giving up control. I'm giving up my faculties come under the influence of the alcohol, and I'm I'm gonna do and say things that that I normally wouldn't. But if I look at the word control, I wanna surrender myself to the influence of the Holy Spirit and be controlled by the Holy Spirit and have nothing impeding, no impediment in my desire to be controlled by the Holy Spirit. So I exercise my will in such a way, be not drunk with wine wherein is excess. So drink if you wanna drink, not in excess though, but much better be being filled. It's the Greek tense is continuous. Be filled with the spirit. So come under the influence of the holy spirit. Be influenced by the holy spirit. Ride, you know, ride along with the holy spirit. And the wind flow, flow with the holy spirit. Water, a mighty rushing wind and also a torrent of living water. Jesus said in John seven, if any man thirst, then come unto me and drink. He that believes in me, as scripture said out of his belly shall flow torrents of living water. As the deer pants after the water brook, so pants my soul after thee, oh God. Much of the reason why we want other influences in our life is to try and satisfy a thirst that's a spiritual thirst. So recognize the greatest thirst that's within us is fellowship with God, and that's through the life of the spirit. So you reach a place for many where you may have drank wine, alcohol each night. It's good for your heart. You you sit down, you have a glass of wine, and and there may be a point in time where you say, you know, I don't desire that anymore. I don't need it anymore. Or used to drink a lot, you don't need to drink a lot anymore. When God replaces all that we think we have to have with himself, something far greater, something far better. We're not missing out. We're not missing out on anything. It's not a I'm sweating. You know, I'm sweating. I gotta have this. It's I don't I don't need it. You know? But just don't take away my chocolate chip cookies. You know? We start going down those line. So if those guys would have said that, no chocolate chip cookies, I couldn't have been a part of their band. I can't be in that band. Not gonna roll that way. So you got John the Baptist living out in the wilderness, locusts and wild honey, a very ascetic lifestyle. The Essenes, a group of believers lived out by the Dead Sea, the Qumran Caves and all that, and they were they were quick to believe in Jesus when he came on the scene. Asceticism. During church history, you have those that would live on top of poles for years, you know, aesthetics, and it does make you more holy. It just makes you kind of goofy. And so foxes have holes, birds of the air have nests, the son of man has nowhere to lay his head. Jesus didn't buy real estate. He bought you with his blood, and he'd camp out. He'd live at other people's houses. He'd couch surf, that sort of thing. Had he been married, I'm sure he would have bought a home. Peter owned a home. And John Mark, his mom, owned a home in Jerusalem. Nothing wrong with owning a home. Probably it's very strong indicator in our culture that it's good to own a home, have it paid off, and a family home is a good thing. And then as Robbie alluded to, then you might have something to give your kids as an inheritance. That would be a good thing to pass on the wealth to the next generation, if he can. But if not, if the Lord calls you to live a life like a Bedouin, a nomad, then that's what you do. So thus have we obeyed. So look at the word obeyed. Verse 10, obey Verse 14, obeyed. Verse 18, obeyed. Obedience. Thus have we obeyed the voice of Jonadab, the son of Rehab, our father, in all that he has charged us to drink no wine to our days, we are our wives, our sons, and our daughters. Now that's gotta be work of the Holy Spirit. I don't know how anybody could pull that off. Crazy, crazy. So who wants to read first Peter two eleven? Gotta wake you guys up. Who wants to read Psalm thirty seven sixteen? Thirty seven sixteen? Yeah. I'll read it. And who wants first Timothy six verse six? I got it. Godliness with contentment. And Psalm thirty two eight and nine. I'll do that. Okay. You're doing a first one too? I'm doing Psalms thirty seven sixteen. Psalm thirty seven sixteen, and then we're gonna go to first Samuel 15 chapter 15 in a little bit here. Okay. So first Peter two eleven, the picture of sojourning. Thought Rob took that one. Abstain from fleshly lust. Did you take Psalm thirty two eighteen. No. I thought you took the first one. No. I didn't. What's the first one? That's the first one. First Peter two four fourteen. I can do it if you guys want. I I can get it. Okay. First Peter two fourteen? Yes, please. For to governors as sent by him? That seems like a weird place to start. 211. 211. Oh, you said 14. I'm sorry. I did. It's hard for me to read my writing. It's alright. Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul? So abstinence, there's things we should abstain from. And so when he uses the word alien, pilgrim, sojourner, your citizenship being in heaven, we're nonconformists. We don't conform to this world. We're different. We're to be different. And part of how we're to be different is we don't give in to the Moris, the the the society, very strong, strong emphasis in their society, the Romans, the Greeks. When we study the first Corinthians, we're gonna see how prolific fornication was in the culture, And so we as Christians should be different. We're not to give in to that. And so Paul's gonna say, hey, if you burn, you burn with passion, you're not a eunuch, you don't have the gift, get married. Exercise that that gift of oneness in the context of marriage, not outside of marriage. So Peter's letting us know, yeah, you're gonna be different, and don't try to justify what you're doing. Well, God's the one that gave me these impulses. God's the one that, you know, gave me these hormones. God's the one that gave me these drives. So you've got the drive inside of you to breathe. You've got a drive for water. You've got a drive for food, and we have a drive that God's given us, a God given drive for sexual union. And in the case of sexual union, you abstain from that drive until you get married. That's where we I watched a little show with the kids today. They came over snow day, tried to hit me with a snowball, and they had the cruises, and they were all fascinated with fire. Mhmm. And it's just a fascinating thing, that a fire. So they were Isaiah was talking about fire's good, fire's bad. Oh, you burn this, burn that. So I just said, well, that fire in your house, if it's in your wood burning stove, it's good because you can heat from it, you can cook from it. But if that fire gets outside of the place it's designed for, it could burn your house down. And so so that's why the Lord wants to for us to abstain until that point in time. And then you and then you get your your whole culture mocking you. It's all of a sudden, it's a derogatory term if your daughter or your son is a virgin. Yeah. It's laughable, and they're gonna mock you. You're a virgin? Well, how do you know you're compatible? Well, by faith, I trust God that we will be. You know? And, well, don't you have to go try a bunch of people to learn how to do it and all? No. Dogs know how to do it. You know? They don't go to school to learn how. You know? Right? It's pretty obvious. You know? We'll figure it out. You know? But they they want you to think, like, somehow you're gonna be incompatible. No. I think everybody be at attention. Everything worked just fine. And Amen. It's God's idea. It's not mine. Alright. But, you know, Paul go on to say that a fornicator actually becomes one with the person. You're given a piece of yourself to the other person. And so God's reserved that for marriage. So those who practice abstinence should be applauded and encouraged, and we should teach our children to abstain. And And so there you go. If your kid goes off to the military, son or daughter, and they're in with a group of people and the pressure is to drink, to go out drinking, and they've abstained, they haven't been a drinker, or to smoke cigarettes. They haven't been a smoker. They haven't done a lot of these things. And then so now they're not at home. And so you're Joseph. You've been sold into slavery. You're a young man, and you're with Potiphar's wife day by day by day by day serving. And then she grabs ahold of you and lie with me. Lie with me. And you gotta flee. Flee youthful lust. Right? Flee. And she grabs his outer garment and holds onto it, and then a woman scorned. She's angry, so she tells her husband tells her husband, hey. He made a pass at me. It wasn't true. So so he winds up in prison. Right? But he maintained his integrity, didn't he? And god knew his address. And at an appropriate time, god would use all these injustices and all these bad things as a test. And you go through the fire and the intention of the fire, the test, is to purify you. And as you're purified, you're being prepared from the time you're 17, living a godly life, Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, you're being prepared for the palace. You go from the prison to the palace, and God is equipping you and getting you ready. So that of discipline. Obedience, there's an aspect of discipline in our lives where we say yes to certain things and no to other things. And we need to learn the word, I believe no, is a forgotten word. So Psalm thirty seven sixteen. A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked. So all of us here, middle class, lower middle class, no class, and so you look at Bill Gates or Klaus Schwab or Noe Yuval Harari. Would you ever want to be as nut jobs as they are? No. I mean, for all the gold tea in China, you would never ever ever ever ever now when you when you have a meal, when you have bible study, when you go to church, and you're around your family and your friends, and you have Christ, the unsearchable riches of Christ, you're far wealthier than those nut jobs who are suicidal, maniacs, narcissistic, Hitler esque nut jobs. And it doesn't matter how much money they have, Mick Jagger saying it, they can't find no satisfaction. Right? They can't. They try. They try. They can't. So they're taken over by demons, and they're tormented, and their money can't bring happiness. And you and I, our happiness is not predicated on money or externals. It's internal. It's the joy of the Lord, which is the fruit of the spirit. Right? So we need to remember that. So nor to build houses for us to dwell in, neither have we vineyards, nor fields, nor seed. So first Timothy six verse six. But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and it certainly weren't gonna bring nothing out. Paul says, with food and raiment, therewith be content. I learned to be content whatever state I am, whether I'm abased or whether I'm abounding. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Let your life be without covetousness, in Hebrews. For it's certain that, you know, we brought nothing into the world, we're going to carry nothing out, and also with covetousness, or the love of money, many have pierced themselves through with sorrow. So it's not money. Joseph and Nicodemus were wealthy, and they had a tomb that Jesus Joseph had a tomb that Jesus could use for the weekend, and Abraham was wealthy. Zacchaeus come down from that tree. He was wealthy. There are a lot of wealthy guys that came to the Lord, had lots of money and stuff. But so it's not the money. It's the love of money, the lust for money that's the root of all evil. And I'm amazed in America and around the world how many people have sold their souls to the demonic new world order. People that you thought at one point were upright, good citizens, good people, good military generals, statesmen, leaders, and you find out truckloads of money are delivered to them if they'll just not do anything in regard judges. All of them, they're all bought off. And we we see this as we study through Jeremiah, all the princes, the nobility, everybody's being bought off rather than doing the right thing. As I say, we need a guy that will come along like Denzel Washington be the equalizer for us. That's what we need. But we have dwelt in tents and have obeyed and done according to all that Jonah Deborah father commanded us. And so obedience honors your father. Obedient honors God the father. Right? Disobedience, what's that do to the family? What's that do to the parents? What's that do to God? Bring shame. Dishonor. Dishonor. Shame. And I love my girls no matter what, so no matter what they've done, I've never met a righteous person yet. So if anybody, even though it may bring me shame, it's a small community, even though people may whisper or whatever, they may judge concerning tattoos or hairstyles or colors or disobedient lifestyles or whatever it is. There are a whole lot of parents out there who feel inadequate and wish they could have done a better job and could have protected their kids from those kind of things. A lot of it's minuscule. It doesn't mean a hill of beans, but, yeah, I don't care anymore. It used to be I want them to dress a certain way, so when they're young, when it comes to Easter time, Kathy would get these really beautiful Easter dresses and everything. If you see the early pictures, their hair is just gorgeous, and not too much jewelry, they're conservative, they're just awesome, just incredible. And then as they enter adulthood, they start making their own decisions. So you go on a mission trip, and they know they're not supposed to have tattoos, and it's on a mission trip that your daughter gets a tattoo on her toe, and she wears her flip flop to cover it, but she's really excited because she defied you, and stolen water is even sweeter water, you know? And so it's like they got away with something, you know? And you find out later. And then it continues in that way. Not a whole lot you can do to teenagers. Not a whole lot you can do with kids that are 17, eighteen, nineteen, 20. How are you gonna get them to obey? And so they exert their their freedom and their choices, and they gotta live with them, don't they? Mhmm. And but still, I don't care whatever they've done, I never look at them as and I've never told them you've dishonored me. Do you know how many people look to me as a pastor in this community? I've never had that conversation with them. Never. Because I don't give up what anybody thinks. They're my girls. We did the best we could. We're still here, and there's no parent out there that has perfect kids. None. And you think you do. You just wait. You just wait. You know? So it's the most humbling job anybody could do. So you you do the best you can. And now my heart does go out to Kathy because she's a perfect mother, perfect wife, and her daughters owe her so much more respect than she's received. And, I mean, she dedicated her life to homeschooling these girls. She gave up her life for them, as many of you have done. And so all I can say is when our daughters finally have their families and their kids, they're gonna find out what an incredible mom they have. They're gonna find out how hard this is and that there's no guarantees. No guarantees. So for Kathy and I, we've tried to not, you know, drink or allow bad things or say bad words. We've tried to live the Christian life in obedience to God, but our kids make their own their own decisions. And and I'm pleased with both of them at this point. All I want is for them to be in love with Jesus. That's all I care about. Are you in love with Jesus? Are you following Jesus? And that's all I want. That's all I want. Be in love with Jesus. Let's get to the finish line. Let's get home. Let's get to heaven. The Lord will take care of all the rest. And I'm not I'm not about trying to make a show of how godly Kathy and I are or how godly my kids are or whatever. In me, that is my flesh dwells no good thing. And and so for me, the only thing we can boast in or glory in is that we know Jesus, and and that's it. And so I think it's really hard upon families and parents and kids these days, and we do have to extend enormous amount of grace because we're living in a time of lawlessness. We're living in a time where it's very difficult for many to even be a Christian and to walk in obedience. We don't have the help of those, you know, around us in many ways. So we have dwelt intense and have obeyed and done according to all that Jonadab, our father, commanded us, and I can't say that. I can't say that my life and I think these guys are probably lying a little bit. I think there's times where they did sin. You know? I don't know anybody that can say, I've obeyed, and I've done everything. Can you? These guys are superhuman. If they had no kid, you know, go behind a bush somewhere, you know, and have a or something. You know? But the Lord's allowed me to get away with it to make an illustration. You know? When I was in high school, all my friends wanted me to smoke pot, and I was living with a friend of mine. My family lived with my dad, eleventh grade in an apartment, and then twelfth grade with my friend Andy. And my dad simply said, alcohol is cool, you know, with him, but he didn't want me to smoke pot. So out of my love for him and honoring him, I didn't smoke pot. Now when I turned 18 and got my own place, all my friends were wanting me to smoke pot. They liked how it changed my my personality, and they laughed at me a real lot. And and so so I I started doing a little bit of it, and but it was after I was under the sway or the authority of my dad and which whom I didn't want to dishonor. And and so, you know, I didn't. But even even thereafter, I didn't have a real desire for it. So I just briefly briefly messed around with it. So there were things within my heart that I did wanna hear my dad say that he's proud of me. And I think we need to hear that. I think we need to tell our kids that we're proud of him. But it came to pass when Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, came up under the land that we said, come and let us go to Jerusalem. So here they are, you know, violating the agreement with the command that they had with Rebbe, but the lord understands, hey. There's a war out there. And so, you know, in Luke twenty one twenty and twenty one, the lord said when you see Jerusalem surrounded with Titus, with the Romans, you know, flee flee to the hills and all, These guys doing the opposite. They're in the outlying area. They're fleeing into the city for some help. And they're supposed to live in tents and all that. Right? So right here, there's already a disobedience, but it's an allowed disobedience. But the alcohol was the big one. Right? So he said, let us go into Jerusalem for fear of the army of the Chaldeans and for fear of the army of the Syrians. So we dwell at Jerusalem. So they're not out in the the field yet. So then came the word of the Lord unto Jeremiah saying, thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, go and tell the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, will you not receive instruction to hearken to my words, saith the Lord? And so who had Psalm thirty two eight nine, receive instruction? God wants to speak to us, instruct us in the way we should go. He wants to guide us. The Lord says I will guide you along the best pathways for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. Do not be like a senseless horse or a mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control. So what's that mean? Be obedient. Be obedient. Now the guidance, he's using a horse as an illustration. Kathy would say it's a dumbass. So how do you guide a dumbass? How do you guide a horse? How do you instruct and teach a horse? A bit. So one of the ways is a bit with means a pain. Pain. Pain. Pain. Pain. Right? Discomfort. But the lord said, I don't wanna guide you that way. What's the other way you guide somebody? The jaw. A stick. What's that? Training? A punch. You guys are brutal. Is this how you raise your kids? You said a dog. You have compliant and noncompliant. Right? Yeah. When they're noncompliant, use the board of education. Right? Spank them. Right. Use pain. Pain's a good guide. Right? Yep. The lord chastens whom he loves. He brings pain into our life. But he says, don't be like that mule. Don't be like that dumbass. Don't be like that horse. Right? Mhmm. Let me guide you with my eyes. Oh. Do you see that? Read it again, Rob. Says the Lord says, will guide you along the best pathways for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. I did not be like do not be like a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control. Okay. I'm gonna read out of the anointed King James because I was gonna do that earlier. Important point that his bible left out. Psalm thirty two eight nine. This is a bible moment. Think about what bible you guys wanna have. I have two. I have it right here. Okay. You shouldn't read out of it. Alright. But So verse eight, I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way you should go. I will guide thee with what? Mine eye. Why didn't Rob's bible have that? What's it mean to be guided by the eye? Well, when you're a kid, your mom and dad would look at you just with their eyes. Yeah. That's right. That's all you needed. That's right. The Lord's saying the Lord's saying, Vicki's going like this. I see you. Yeah. I see you. So if I keep my eyes on Jesus, he's the author and the finisher of my faith. He's instructing to teach me. If I keep my eyes on him, he's guiding me as I'm watching him. He's he's directing me, guiding me, telling me a way to go. But if I get my eyes off him, and as a horse, I go my own way Yeah. He's gonna pull on the rein, put pain in my jaw, and Balaam's dumbass actually began to speak with a man's voice. Haven't I been a loyal ass to you all these years? You know? Why are you beating on me right now? It wasn't just that he was being beat on. There was an angel there gonna cut the guy's head off. Right? So he was obedient. So for you and I, we wanna be instructed and taught, you know, as as as these boys were, these people were by their parents told don't do this. But the lord is saying, I've tried to instruct you. I've I've sent prophets. I've sent teachers. I've sent people to tell you the way that you should go. The problem is not knowledge. The problem is your heart, your disobedient heart, your rebellious heart. You won't listen to me. These guys obey their dad, but you won't you're unwilling to receive instruction, and the instruction that I provide is for your good. I don't want you to hurt yourself. I don't want you to run out into the street and get hit by a car. You know? That's why you can't play out on the street. And and so we will not will you not receive instruction to hearken to my words, sayeth the Lord? So David says, thy word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against thee. God's word is is one of the greatest ways for us to discern his will for our lives. He'll never contradict his revealed will, you know, in his word. I know that I'm not supposed to sin. The Bible says, you know, you know, steal not to steal. I know I'm not to there's a whole list of things I'm not supposed to do. There's things I'm supposed to do, which is love. Love fulfills the whole the whole thing. And so it's not a matter of, I didn't know. You correct your kids. I didn't know that. Yes. I've been telling you that. Don't do that. Now you're lying to me. You know? And so we say, oh god, I didn't know. It's not my fault. It's her fault. You know? We don't wanna take responsibility. And the words of Jonadab, the son of Rehab, as he commanded his sons not to drink wine are are performed for us unto this day, they drink none, but obey their father's commandment. Notwithstanding, I have spoken unto you rising early and speaking, but you hearken not unto me. I have sent also unto you all my servants and and prophets rising up early and sending them to return now every man from his evil way and amend your doings. So he's bringing correction. He's bringing destruction. He's calling them under repentance. What's America need? Repentance. Repentance. Did you guys listen to that Trump video? Mm-mm. I couldn't bring myself to listen to it. You didn't you didn't listen to it? I read read about it, but I I didn't wanna watch the video. It's real brief here. We'll go ahead and we'll you don't want that, Viggy? So turn to first Samuel 15. Chapter 15. Who wants to read at verse one? First Samuel 15. Oh, you got it? No. No. No. You no. He likes your voice better than mine. I do. I do. He told me that. I know. And she's so good, so articulate. Yep. She gets the all the different inflections. Yeah. Oh, do go on. Fifteen to Alright. Oh, say We'll read the whole chapter. You guys got time? What? Read oh, you gotta get the whole chapter. It's about obedience. Saul's obedience. Then Samuel said to Saul, the Lord sent me to anoint you as king over his people over Israel. Now, therefore, listen to the words of the Lord. Thus says the Lord of hosts, I will punish Amalek for what he did to Israel, how he set himself against him on the way while he was coming up from Egypt. Now go and strike Amalek and utterly destroy all that he has, and do not spare him. But put to death both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey. Then Saul summoned the people and numbered them in Tilayn, 200,000 foot soldiers and 10,000 men of Judah. Saul came to the city of Amalek and set an ambush in the sit in the valley. Saul said to the Kenites, go, depart. Go down from among the Amalekites so that I do not destroy you with them, for you showed kindness to all the sons of Israel when they came up from Egypt. So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites. So Saul defeated the Amalekites from Hebula as you go to shore, which is East Of Egypt. He captured Agag, the king of the Amalekites, alive and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword. But Saul and the people spared Agag and the vest of the sheep, the oxen, the fatlings, the lambs, and all that was good, and were not willing to destroy them utterly, but everything despised and worthless that they utterly destroyed. Then the word of the Lord came to Samuel, saying, I regret that I have made Saul king, for he has turned back from following me and has not carried out my commandments. And Samuel was distressed and cried out to the Lord all night. Samuel rose early in the morning to meet Saul. And it was told Saul it was told Samuel, saying, Saul came to Carmel, and, behold, he set up a monument for himself, then turned and proceeded on down to Gilgal. Samuel came to Saul, and Saul said to him, blessed are you of the Lord. I have carried out the command of the Lord. But Samuel said, what then is this bleating of the sheep in my ears and the lowing of the oxen which I hear? Saul said, they have brought them from the Amalekites, for the people spared the best of the sheep and oxen to sacrifice to the Lord your God, but the rest we have utterly destroyed. Then Samuel said to Saul, wait, and let me tell you what the Lord said to me last night. And he said to him, speak. Samuel said, it is not true it is not true, though you were little in your own eyes, you were made the head of the tribes of Israel, And the Lord anointed you king over Israel, and the Lord Lord sent you on a mission and said, go and utterly destroy the sinners, the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are exterminated. Why then did you not obey the voice of the Lord, but rushed upon the spoil and did what was evil in the sight of the Lord? Then Saul said to Samuel, I did obey the voice of the Lord and went on the mission on which the Lord sent me. And I brought back Agag, the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites. But the people took some of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the choices of the things devoted to destruction to sacrifice to the Lord your God at Gilgal. Samuel said, has the Lord as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice and to heed than the fat of the rams. For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and insubordination is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, he has rejected you from being king. Then Saul said to Samuel, I have sinned. I have indeed transgressed the command of the Lord and your words because I feared the people and listened to their voice. Now, therefore, please pardon my sin and return with me that I may worship the Lord. But Samuel said to Saul, I will not return with you, for you have rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord has rejected you from being king over Israel. As Samuel turned to go, Saul seized the edge of his rope, and it tore. So Samuel said to him, the Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you from you today and has given it to your neighbor who is better than you. Also, the glory of Israel will not lie or change his mind, for he is not a man that he should change should change his mind. Then he said, I have sinned, but please honor me now before the elders of my people and before Israel and go back with me that I may worship the Lord your God. So Samuel went back following Saul, and Saul worshiped the Lord. Then Samuel said, bring me Agag, the king of the Amalekites. And Agag came to him cheerfully. And Agag said, surely the bitterness of death has passed. But Daniel but Samuel said, as your sword has made women childless, so shall your mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag to pieces before the Lord at Gilgal. Then Samuel went to Ramah, but Saul went up to his house at Gibeah of Saul. Samuel did not see Saul again until the day of his death. For Samuel grieved over Saul, and the Lord regretted that he had made Saul king over Israel. Okay. Several things. One, the Kenites in verse six. That's who we're talking about, the Recobites. So these Saul did not wipe out because they helped in the Exodus, and so they were spared. And then as you come up here, he's given clear instructions to wipe out everything. Don't keep anything, none of the spoil. And so number one, he starts out in verse seven sparing king Agag. Then in verse nine, he's sparing the best of the sheep, the oxen, and all that other sort of stuff. The lord indicates, hey, repent of me that I made Saul, you know, king. And then Samuel comes, and Saul starts to and I'll think in terms of leadership. Saul starts to make excuses for being disobedient. And first excuse is we wanna worship God. So when I disobey the Lord, I'm gonna go to church. I'm gonna I'm I'm gonna cover it by being religious. I'm gonna disobey, but now I'm gonna go and put $200 in the tithe and offering. I'm gonna lift my hands and sing to the Lord, and somehow that makes it right. Somehow I can make things right because I I attend church each Sunday. But I'm gonna disobey the Lord through the week, but I'm gonna make it good on Sundays because because, you know, I'm gonna worship God. And that's a huge problem. That's in Isaiah one. The Lord says, I'm sick and tired of your offerings. I'm I'm sick and tired of, you know, all your religiousness. You're living in a lives of of disobedience. So he tried to cover it that way. And he also lied. It says he I have I have performed the commandments of the Lord. So now he's lying. And Samuel said, what means the bleeding of the sheep? He can hear the sheep in his ears and the oxen. And they have brought them from the Amalekites for the people spared the best. So now he's a people pleaser. Now he's trying to be a politician and please the people by sparing the best that, you know, of the the sheep and all. And so now he's doing the blame game, blaming the people, sacrifice under the the lord thy god, and the rest have utterly destroyed. So we see the where he says to obey is better than sacrifice. Go and destroy the sinners, the Amalekites, and fight against them until they be consumed. So Samuel reminds them of, you know, what the objective was, what the mission was. The Amalekites are a type of the flesh. If you leave the door open like we talked earlier, if you crack the door on your flesh, if you don't crucify the flesh, mortify the deeds of the flesh, kill the crucify the you know, and all, You crack the door, there's a chance that you're gonna fall back into that behavior. So the the objective or the solution to the flesh is death. There's no reforming the flesh. You gotta walk in the newness of life. Egypt's a type of the world. And so you got the world, the flesh, and the devil, you know, as our enemies. So why then did thou and and here's an important thing. You don't negotiate with the flesh. You don't negotiate with the world. You don't try to be a world pleaser. You don't try to be relevant with the world, nor do you try to accommodate the flesh, the lust, the demands of the flesh. It's gotta be the door shut. There's no negotiating. I'm gonna live for Jesus. So why then did thou not obey the voice of the Lord, but did fly upon the spoil and did evil in the sight of the Lord? And Saul said unto Samuel, yay, I have obeyed. He's still in denial. He's he's still making excuses. This is a leader. And so the voice of the Lord, and I've gone the way which the Lord sent me and have brought Agag the king of Amalek and utterly destroyed the Malachites. But the people, again, the people, but the people took of the spoil, the sheep, the oxen, chief of them, of the things which should have utterly destroyed the sacrifice under the Lord, the God of Gilgal. And Samuel said, Has the Lord a great delight in the burnt offering and sacrifices so you can cover it up by being religious, by offering it to the Lord. Hey, I'll offer it to the Lord. That'll make it right. By obeying the voice of the Lord, behold, to obey is better than sacrifice and to hearken than the fat of rams. So the Lord's saying, don't try to buy me off. Simply obey me. Do what I'm telling you to do. You can't follow-up your sin by trying to buy me off. And the way you know, Lord, that I gave to the orphanage, oh Lord, I built that, you know, building over there. Oh Lord, I gave here. Oh Lord, I attended church. No, your life was in shambles. I wanted you. I'm interested in you. You're gonna destroy yourself living in disobedience to me. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft. There it is, rebellion. That's at the heart of the problem of America. We're in rebellion against God. And stubbornness as the iniquity and idolatry because thou has rejected the word of the Lord. Solution for America, just come back to the word of the Lord. Churches, just come back to teaching the word of the Lord so the people know how they're to live. Rejected thee from being king. And so you reject from being king. And and Saul said to Samuel, I have sinned. I transgressed the commandment of the Lord and the words because I feared, I feared the people. So David was a man after God's own heart. David sought to please the Lord. David's a sinner, but his objective was to please the Lord. That's what he sought, to please the Lord. Saul was not about pleasing the lord. Saul was what we would call a politician. Right? And they're always concerned. They're like chameleons. They'll move any direction they need to move to be relevant with the world, to get the world to like them, to get the numbers up, to get the people to like, the whole thing. And the question is, are they living lives of obedience to the Lord? Is this what the Lord's asking them to do? So he blames the people. The people put pressure upon him, and that's part of the pressure we as pastors receive today where Paul told Timothy, you know, they won't endure sound doctrine, but they'll heap to themselves teachers having itching ears. So the people become the ones that tell the pastors what they wanna hear and what they don't wanna hear. Don't talk about repentance. Don't talk about sin. Don't do prophecy. Tell us what we want to hear. Smooth things. Tell us we're good. That sort of stuff. So a prophet, a Christian that lives to please the Lord, in many cases, is gonna be a lonely Christian. You're gonna be an anomaly. You're gonna be weird. You're gonna be different. You're not gonna be as popular. And and that's okay because the only one you need to please is the Lord. So Paul's want I mean, Saul's wanting, you know, everyone. Now after this, when the Lord moves in the direction of identifying David, there's gonna be in the top 40 music on the radio, it's people are gonna be singing songs, Saul has killed his thousands and David has tens of thousands. That's gonna make Saul really angry, really angry that David's outdoing him, and David kills the giant, and David you know, God's using David mightily, and it just torments. So David's got to run from Saul for about ten years now in preparation to becoming king. But God already knows who he is and has chosen him, the son of Jesse. And so I feared the people and obeyed the voice. Now therefore I pray thee pardon my sin, turn again, that I may worship again. And you've rejected the word of the Lord, so the Lord has rejected thee. When we're talking Sunday about God's name for you and me, he's got a name, and we're talking about the name of the stars and the name the name rather than a number, and how he knows you intimately. He knows me intimately. One of the thoughts I had later that I've been meditating upon is in that I left out, I didn't mention, is in Matthew seven, many are gonna come to the Lord and say, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, in your name? Did we not do many good deeds and stuff in your name? They were religious. And he's gonna say, away from me, I never knew you. He's gonna say, I don't even know your name. I don't know your name. There's no relationship here. But for you and I, our name's in the lamb's book of life. Right? Amen. The Lord knows my name. We may be insignificant with the world, but we're very important to the Lord that he would send his son. Right? And so don't don't try to, you know, in first John, friendship with the world is enmity with God. Don't seek the world as your friend. Make sure you're living to please the Lord. Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. You know? It's so clear. Obey the Lord. And so, again, his emphasis upon honor me, he was concerned about the people honoring him, honoring him. Go back with me, Samuel, that the people honor me. And and so Paul was I mean, Saul, king Saul was a people pleaser. So when you when you're wanting to serve the Lord, when you think in terms of when I was first becoming a pastor, I had to examine this in such a way of what kind of pastor do I wanna be? Do I wanna be like King Saul, or do I wanna be like David? If I'm gonna be like king Saul, then I'm gonna be a people pleaser. And I'm gonna try and figure out what the people want and accommodate the people so that we can have a big church. Or do I want to be like David where I seek solely to please the Lord? Remember at Ziklag, they were gonna stone him and and said and David encouraged himself in this god. So on a regular basis, every day, I've got to determine when I'm preaching, teaching, when I'm developing the sermon. There's things like Bonhoeffer said that pastors leave out that makes them a heretic, a false prophet. It's what they won't say. They won't speak up. So for me, I it's it's not just what I say. There's things I can't leave out. I just can't. I have to I have to say things that I know are unpopular, that I know have the potential to cause a lot of people to leave the church, to hate me, to hate us, to hate everything. And but we're getting to the finish line now. And so more and more, we're being proven as correct. We're not conspiracy theorists. These things are happening. And just as Jeremiah as Jeremiah gets to the finish line, all the false prophets are gonna be proved wrong. Now they can lie to the people now and tell the people, hey, everything's gonna be great. Nebbe's not gonna destroy this place and all. And they're gonna have nice houses, nice everything. Jeremiah, he's gonna be thrown in the dungeon. He's gonna be thrown in the pit. He's gonna be mistreated. And so you have to determine who are we gonna please? And we are and were made for his pleasure, so I need to live to please the Lord. And the people are his. They get to decide. Each person gets to decide if they want to please the Lord or not please the Lord. So as for me and my house, Joshua said, you guys decide who you want to serve. But as for me and my house, we're gonna serve the Lord. And so you have to sink that down deep within your heart, lest you become a compromiser and a man pleaser. And and so let's see here if this will come up. So the Trumpster reminds me of a lot of things, but not a Christian, not a godly leader. So you can read it in its written form. That wasn't the right one. Let's see here. Here it is. Now listen to the eyes, listen to focus on himself. Powerful $99 drone is now available in The US. That's a NAV. Extremely high-tech $5,000 drone. It was developed so that Skip at. That that makes me sick. So alright. Let's finish this up. So that of obedience. Verse 16, we'll go again. Because the son of Jonadab, the son of Rehab, performed the commandment of the father, which he commanded them, but this people has not hearkened unto me. Therefore, thus saith the Lord, God of hosts, the God of Israel, behold, I will bring upon Judah and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I pronounced against them because I have spoken unto them, but they have not heard. And I have called unto them, but they have not answered. And Jeremiah Jeremiah said unto the house of Rehobites, thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, because you have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab, your father, and kept all his precepts and done according to all that he has commanded you. So the emphasis upon commitment and discipline. Therefore, thus saith the Lord of hosts, the god of Israel, Jonadab, the son of Rehab, shall not lack a man to stand before me forever. And so continuous line of servants. John twelve twenty four says, except a corn of wheat fall to the ground and die, it abides alone, but if it dies, it bears much fruit. Luke twenty one thirty six, watch ye therefore and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass and to stand before the son of man. These guys get to stand before the lord as like a doorkeeper to continually be able to serve the lord. So what's god asking for? He's not asking for a trump. He's asking for obedience from the people. And if they'll simply repent and obey, then he'll be their hero. He'll be their leader. He'll he'll raise up leaders that for us. But if we disobey, if we make America an idol, and it's all about America, America, America, and prosperity, not about obedience unto God, then the Lord's gonna say, you know what? You're sown to the wind. You're gonna reap the whirlwind, and and the Jacobites obeyed their dad. Why won't you guys obey me? So alright. Father, we thank you. Lord, we know we're we're in a precarious spot here in America as Americans. And, Lord, we need your help. We cry out to you. You're the only one that can save America. And more and more as the days go on, Lord, as as times become more and more difficult, I pray that more and more people would wake up to their need of turning to you, crying out to you, that you would raise up leaders, that you'd raise up people that call this nation under repentance, Lord. Lord, you sent Jonah to the Ninevites and with a message of forty days and you're gonna perish. And from the king on down, Lord, they came to that place of repentance. They didn't rehearse how great they are. They didn't rehearse advertisements of how great, you know, their leadership is and could save them. Lord, you diagnose them. You diagnose the problem. You told them that forty days you're going to perish from the king straight down. They knew, Lord, within their heart how essential it was to repent, to honor you, to look to you. And so, God, we pray that America would be called to repentance. We pray that each of us in our homes, our families, any of us that are living lives of disobedience unto you, Lord, that we would repent, all of us, from the king on down. And, God, that you would be merciful, that you give us a reprieve, that we'd have more time to share the gospel, to protect our grandkids and kids, and to be a bright shining light in these last days, Lord. But if not, Lord, we pray that you'd come for us your bride, and that we'd be the resistance, the resistance of the demonic new world order, the time of Jacob's trouble, the 77 of Daniel, the tribulation period where the world embraces an antichrist, a people's champion. And as Jesus said, he came in his father's name, and the world received him not. Another shall come in his own name, and him the world will receive. So, Lord, we see that the antichrist can't even be revealed until you take us, the resistance out, that restraining influence, the work of the holy spirit in through us, Lord. So even so, come quickly, Lord Jesus, we pray. Amen. Amen. K.
