Genesis 2:1-14
Pastor Rick Beaudry unpacks Genesis 2:1-14, explaining God’s seventh day rest, how the Sabbath was later given as a sign to Israel, and how Christ fulfills and becomes our true Sabbath rest. He details the formation of Adam from the dust and the breath of life, the planting of the Garden of Eden with the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and the four rivers flowing from Eden including the Tigris and Euphrates. Drawing on Hebrews, Colossians, Galatians and Jesus’ words, he warns against returning to legalism, urges us to pursue the rest of faith and to value communal worship, and points to the finished work of Christ. He also reflects on free will, the dignity of work, and God’s promise to complete the work he has begun in us.
